North Kitsap High School and Its Community
Located in the picturesque town of Poulsbo, Washington, North Kitsap High School (NKHS) is nestled amidst the scenic and majestic landscapes of Kitsap County. This area, fondly referred to as “Little Norway,” is a cultural tapestry that is home to about 10,500 residents. The community benefits from the town's proximity to Seattle, which is just an 11-mile, 35-minute ferry ride away.
Poulsbo's captivating views of the Olympic Mountains attract thousands of visitors annually, reinforcing the town's vibrancy. Furthermore, it is home to Naval Base Kitsap, which is the largest employer in the county, contributing significantly to the local economy.
NKHS is a core part of this thriving community, providing a comprehensive four-year public high school education to approximately 1,100 students. We adhere to a two-semester, 36-week school schedule facilitated through a modified block instructional system.
Accredited by both the State of Washington and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NASC), NKHS ensures a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for all students. Our commitment extends beyond rigorous AP and college preparatory curricula, as we also offer a range of extracurricular experiences designed to enrich student life and prepare our graduates for success in their post-high school endeavors.
In the heart of historic Poulsbo, NKHS is more than a school - it's a dynamic learning community integral to the broader cultural mosaic of "Little Norway."

Grades and Class Rank Policy
All grades, by state mandate, are not weighted. All courses, except those denoted with a “E”, “P”, “S”, “W”, or an “NC”, are calculated into a students cumulative GPA and class rank. Students are not ranked until the completion of their junior year. In light of the highly competitive nature of our school and the academic success that most of our students enjoy, a Grade Distribution Chart has been provided to put class rank in the proper perspective.
