Assignment to be working on:
Patrick Henry Speech and Questions.doc
10 most common fallacies.doc

May 3rd
Hey Everyone,
Here we are in May already. I have a new assignment for you to work on this week. If you have not submitted the Walter Mitty assignment to Turnitin, then please work on that first.
The new assignment is a rhetorical analysis of a famous speech. I have also provided the following:
a review or introduction to the idea of syllogism - the foundation for logic.
some definitions of terms that may be helpful
and a list of the 10 most common fallacies as a reminder.
Oh yeah, and the speech and questions.
Here they are - Syllogism.docx   10 most common fallacies.doc
   Patrick Henry Speech and Questions.doc
And here are the terms I want you to remember:

Ethos is a person’s credibility in the eyes of their audience – it is not necessarily ethics.

Logos is logic – facts, figures, stats, syllogism

Pathos – is the appeal to emotions – most commercials appeal to our fears and insecurities.

Allusion- a reference to a commonly known text or shared experience – the bible and mythology are the most common-Shakespeare as well.

Remember to bring your questions to Zoom tomorrow. I emailed you the Zoom invite yesterday. Here is the info here as well:

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.doc

April 23rd
Hey 10th graders,
I am a day behind with posting your next assignment.
You will read a very short story, a classic at that.
You will write a short journal response and answer a few questions about vocab.
You will analyze cause and effect, do a prewrite, imitating the cause and effect scenario and then write a short creative piece emulating the author's style.
Easy peasy.

Here it is:

_2 Walter Mitty Graphic Organizer.docx
